About

The Rere Rockslide is a unique natural phenomenon that formed over millions of years. If you’re chasing an epic free thrill near Gisborne, this activity is an absolute must-do! The waterslide is a 60-metre-long smooth rock face with water rushing over it. Thus creating the perfect spot for an organically-made adrenaline-filled ride.

Grab a bodyboard, inflatable tube, or an old air mattress, and launch-off down the limestone surface into the pool below. Nature powers the slide, so the speed depends on water flow, this makes every ride a little different. The rockslide is generally safe, but it’s still a natural feature. So check the water depth before sliding and avoid going headfirst.

You’ll spot locals and travellers lining up for their turn, so it’s a great place to meet people. In fact, many visitors pair the rockslide with a trip to the nearby Rere Falls, just a short drive away. Meanwhile, don’t forget to bring a picnic—there’s a grassy area perfect for chilling out between rides. On top of that, the surrounding scenery is stunning. Lush greenery and the peaceful Wharekopae River adding to the vibe.
